Todd’s Two Cents – Songs for Middle School

I was substitute teaching middle school today and I wanted to sing some songs with the kids. Here are the songs we sang. 🙂

You Are My Sunshine – new words by todd thompson

CHORUS: You are my sunshine, my only sunshine

You make me happy when skies are gray

You’ll never know dear, how much I love you

Please don’t take my sunshine away

1. I love you truly, I love you always

I love you every single day

You light up my world when you are near me

And your sunshine shows me the way. CHORUS:

2. Of course there’s times, dear, when I am lonely

And there are times when I feel fine

I know you’ll always be here inside me

But when you leave sometimes I cry. CHORUS:

Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen

1. I’ve heard there was a secret chord

That David played and it pleased the Lord

But you don’t really care for music, do you?

It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth

The minor fall, the major lift

The baffled king composing Hallelujah

CHORUS: Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelu – jah.

2. Your faith was strong, but you needed proof

You saw her bathing on the roof

Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you

She tied you to a kitchen chair

She broke your throne, she cut your hair

And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah. Chorus:

La Bamba

Ba, ba, bam-ba Ba, ba, bam-ba, Ba, ba, bam-ba,

Yo no soy marinero,  Yo no soy marinero, soy capitan;

Waving Flag by K’naan C   F   Am   G

       Oh . . .

1. Give me freedom, give me fire

Give me reason, take me higher

See the champions, take the field now

Unify us, make us feel proud.

2. In the streets our hands are liftin’,

 As we lose our inhibitions

Celebration it’s around us, every nation all around us!

CHORUS:

   Singing forever young,

   Singing songs underneath the sun

Let’s rejoice in the beautiful game

And together at the end of the day. We all say

When I get older, I will be stronger,

They’ll call me freedom, just like a Wavin’ flag

So wave your flag, and wave your flag

Now wave your flag  oh oh oh
